Commencement News for December 2016 Graduates

Commencement Day Schedule of Events - Saturday, December 10, 2016
10:00 am - Doors to the RSPAC open. Admittance is by ticket only.
10:15 am - Students report to the Student Recreation Center for line-up
11:00 am - Commencement ceremony begins
Rehearsal for Commencement
Friday, December 9, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center. All graduates are requested to attend rehearsal, regardless of the degree you will receive.
If you have guests with special seating needs, they need to arrive early. Guests with disabilities should see an usher upon arrival. Note: Graduates needing accommodations should contact the Office of Disability Services as soon as possible. The Office of Disability Services can be reached at 812-888-4501 and is located in the South Lobby of Vigo Hall.
All graduates and their families are invited to attend a special reception in the back hallway of the RSPAC immediately following the ceremony.
Graduates are candidates for academic honors if their cumulative GPA is 3.50 or higher. The honors category will be indicated next to the student’s name on the Commencement program. Academic honors candidates are eligible to wear an honor stole or fourragere at the Commencement ceremony. Eligible graduates will receive additional information once a graduation audit has been completed.
Caps and Gowns, Tickets, and Graduation Announcements
Caps and gowns should be picked up at the Old Post Bookstore beginning Monday, December 5, 2016 through Wednesday, December 7, 2016. The cost of the cap and gown, which the graduate keeps, is $30.00 plus tax for associate degree graduates and $40.00 plus tax for baccalaureate degree graduates. Graduates purchasing a cap and gown on one of these three days may request up to four tickets to the commencement ceremony. Although caps and gowns will be available until 1:00 Friday, December 9, only students purchasing a cap and gown on December 5, 6, & 7 are guaranteed four tickets. Any remaining tickets will be available at the bookstore on a first come first serve basis beginning December 8 during regular hours. Up to four additional tickets may be requested per day as long as tickets are available. Graduates do not need a ticket. Students must bring their ID to purchase their camp and gown.
Graduation announcements, frames, and other graduation memorabilia are also available in the bookstore or on the website.
Petitions to Graduate
Students need to meet with their Academic Advisor in their respective College to begin the petition to graduate process. Petitions must be returned to the Registrar's Office no later than Friday, November 4, 2016. It is also important to note that graduation audits are completed in the order they are received in the Registrar's Office. Petitions to Graduate received after Nov. 4 may not be processed in time for inclusion in the commencement program.
Grad Images will photograph the graduates during the ceremony and will provide each graduate photographed an opportunity to order enlargements from a variety of photographic packages with no obligation to purchase. Final examinations for all students will be held the following week (December 12-16, 2016). Students must leave the residence hall within 48 hours after their last exam unless arrangements are made through the Residential Life Office. Residence Halls close Saturday, December 16, at 6:00 p.m.
Book Buy-Back and Rental Return
Students have an opportunity to sell many of their books at the end of each semester. Book buy-backs are scheduled December 5 - 19, 2016, in front of the VU Bookstore during normal hours of operation. Rental books are to be returned to the Bookstore during this time. If rental books are not returned, students will be charged the full amount of the book. This could hold up the release of diploma, transcripts, and grades.
