At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

#4 Vincennes University Pulls Away in 2nd-Half to Win against Triton on Day 1 of the 2017 Sodexo Classic

Vincennes, IN-The #4 Vincennes University Trailblazers men’s team was locked in a back-and-forth battle with D-II #6 Triton, which saw the Blazers win by the score 91-75.

In the first-half of the contest, Vincennes’ offense had a difficult time making shots, shooting 38% from the field. The Blazers did have one shooter shine early though, as freshmen Ty Gadsden helped bring some much needed energy into the P.E. Complex by hitting 4 3-point field goals in a row. Gadsden would finish the half with 5 3-pointers, resulting in a team-leading 15 points at the break.

VU seemed to come out of half-time with a new strategy for scoring points. This new strategy worked perfectly for freshmen Lony Francis, who had 14 of his 19 points in the the second-half of action. Francis was also very efficient for the game, making 8 of his 10 shots. The Blazers saw their shooting percentage rise from 38% to 56% in the second half, helping Vincennes to 53 second-half points.

Freshmen Ty Gadsden finished the game as the Trailblazers leading scorer with 24 points, Lony Francis was 2nd with 19 points, sophomores Isaiah Tisdale and Rade Kukobat rounded out the VU scorers with double-figures ending the night with 16 and 10 points respectively.

The Trailblazers will be in action tomorrow, Saturday November 11th, as the take on The Bosco Institute at 7 p.m. in the final game of the 2017 Sodexo Classic.
