Joe Haan joined VU in March 2011 as the athletic department's certified athletic trainer.
Haan, a VU alumnus from Owensboro, KY, was previously the athletic trainer at Muhlenberg (KY) Community Hospital. In that capacity, he handled a heavy load of administrative duties, along with his responsibilities as athletic trainer. In addition to being the athletic trainer at Muhlenberg County High School, Haan arranged trainer coverage for all the high school's varsity teams' practices and games; facilitated communication between team physicians, other trainers, athletes, coaches and parents, and performed prevention and rehabilitation activities for the athletes.
He also produced injury reports and monitored heat index readings, as well as organizing athletes' physical examinations.
Other areas of experience that made Haan the choice for VU's athletic training department included clinical work with the University of Evansville's men's and women's soccer programs, and his service with various summer camps conducted by VU programs.
After earning his associate's degree at VU, Haan - who played on the VU Blazer Baseball team - obtained his bachelor's in athletic training from the University of Evansville. He went on to gain NATA certification and a Kentucky medical license, as well as CPR and First-Aid certification.
