Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.

Cross Country Unveils 2017 Schedule

Vincennes, IN – This morning Vincennes University Cross Country unveiled their meet schedule for the 2017 season.

The team will kick off the season on Friday, September 1st, at the Walt Crawford Open hosted by Eastern Illinois University. This is a change from last year’s schedule as the team had previously opened up at the Franklin Sodexo Grizzly Invitational.

The team will then travel to stoic West Lafayette, IN to compete at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Purdue University. The Intercollegiate Championships comprises of all Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA colleges and university located in the state of Indiana. All teams come together to compete in one meet. Last season, Evan Franklin earned All-Little State honors for the men, and Anais Da Silva, Nacketa Scanlon, and recently graduated Trailblazer Janeth Magana earned All-Little State Honors for the women’s team.

Next, the team will travel to one of the most exciting cross country atmospheres and venues in the nation as they take to the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. The classic is broken up into three separate races that comprise of teams and athletes from all over the United States of America, and even Canada.

After Louisville, the Trailblazers will make a quick pit-stop close to home at the University of Evansville for the Evansville Invitational. Last season Evan Franklin, Jose Cano Pallares, Hunter Ingle, Janzen Franklin, and Collin Zollman all managed to finish in the top 30 for the men’s team. Anais Da Silva, Janeth Magana, Sydney Davidson, Nacketa Scanlon, and Maisie Lay all finished in the top 25 individual spots, and took home the small school team title.

Then the Blazers will head north to Grand Woods Park in Lansing, Michigan for the NJCAA Region XII Cross Country Championships in hopes of qualifying for the NJCAA National Meet set to take in place in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Last season, Evan Franklin furiously kicked home from 1,000 meters out to take the individual Region XII title. His teammate Jose Cano Pallares finished runner-up, Janzen Franklin finished 4th, and Hunter Ingle finished 9th to all earn All-Region honors. Freshman Kyle Burchett crossed the line as the Blazers fifth man, and helped the team clinch the NJCAA Region XII Men’s Team Cross Country title. The 1st under Head Coach Chris Gafner, and broke a streak of 19 consecutive years that Lansing Community College had won the title.

On the women’s side, Anais Da Silva battled to a 3rd place finish, Janeth Magana finished 10th, Nacketa Scanlon finished 11th, and Sydney Davidson finished 12th to all earn All-Region Honors. The women’s team finished as the Region XII Team Runner-up to the eventual National Champions Lansing Community College.

The team will then conclude their season with the NJCAA Cross Country National Championships to be held by Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and the NJCAA Half-Marathon Championships. Last season, Evan Franklin finished 16th, earning All-American Honors, and clocked the fastest time ever by a freshman in VU Trailblazer history in 25 minutes and 41 seconds. For the women, Anais Da Silva finished 24th, earning All-American Honors. Jose Cano Pallares & Evan Franklin would go on to also earn All-American Honors in the Half-Marathon with 10th & 12th place finishes, as did Da Silva, who finished 6th.
