At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Volleyball Gears up for Parkland Tournament this Weekend

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Volleyball team will travel to Champaign, Illinois this weekend to take park in a highly competitive tournament hosted by Parkland Community College that will showcase 9 ranked NJCAA Division I & II teams on Friday & Saturday.

Earlier this week the Lady Trailblazers picked up a straight set: 25-5, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Ancilla College to bring their overall record to 13-and-2 on the season. The squad has already picked up quality wins over a tough Wallace State team, and previously ranked NJCAA DII teams Muskegon & Lansing Community College.

The Lady Blazers will begin play tomorrow at Noon against #20 Des Moines Community College. They will then face #6 Illinois Central at 5 p.m. to round out their Friday. On Satruday, they will begin play at 10 a.m. against #1 in NJCAA DII Parkland, a team that has won back-to-back NJCAA DII National Titles, and has been to the NJCAA DII National Championships game each of the last 4 seasons. The team will then close out a tough day of competition at Noon against #9 Kirkwood.

Coach Sien said about the upcoming weekend, “We will need to play at a high level. We need to do the basics well, execute, serve well, and not make self-inflicted errors. Every set point will be a battle. We haven’t had a tournament yet where every match will be fought for tooth and nail like this weekend.”

The Lady Trailblazers will look to their stand-out sophomore class to continue to lead them through this weekend. Sophomore Hannah Bullock currently is 7th in NJCAA with 296 digs this season, and 6th in the NJCAA in digs per set at 6.43. Sophomores Gabrielle Medrado and Genesis Milisde rank in the top 50 in the NJCAA in assists and kills respectively. Finally, sophomore Erica Kik currently sits 18th in the NJCAA in solo blocks with 21.

The Lady Trailblazers will face-off with Des Moines Community College in their opening match of the Parkland Tournament tomorrow at Noon!
