START VU Day for Spring 2017 is:

January 6, 2017

Plan on arriving for check-in starting at 8:30 am at the Becks Student Union, START VU will begin at 9 am.

Registering for Classes
An important part of success in the classroom is making sure you are placed in classes that match your level of college readiness. Students who have not successfully completed college level English and math courses are required to take the Accuplacer, an academic skills assessment test.

College Readiness
A minimum Accuplacer score is needed to register for classes.  The scores are: Arithmetic – 34, Writing – 60, Reading Comprehension – 55

When should I take the Accuplacer?
You have the option of waiting to take the Accuplacer at START VU, but we encourage you to take the test early to quicken the registration process. Check out the START VU Schedule A listed below for students who take the test in advance.  If you have already successfully completed testing, no further action is required.

How do I arrange for Accuplacer testing?
The Assessment Center can help you make arrangements to take the Accuplacer on campus or at a local testing site in your community. Students wishing to take the Accuplacer in advance of their START VU day should make plans with the Assessment Center.

Location: Shake Learning Resource Center (Library)             812.888.5404
Hours: Monday - Friday (Walk-in/Reporting times)    9:00 am – 2:00 pm

For local testing sites, check the complete list of sites or call 812.888.5404.  Accuplacer practice tests can be found at www.vinu.edu/assessment-center.

NOTE: A Photo ID is required for testing (Driver’s license, State ID card).
Students should also bring their Banner Student ID number also called an “A” Number.

No test will be permitted to begin after 2:00 pm

What if I have special needs or require accommodations for a disability?
If you are in need of special accommodations for a disability, please call the Office of Disability Services at 812.888.4501 at least two weeks prior to the testing date.  Their staff will be happy to assist you with your needs.

With all of the information given during START VU, it may help to have you there.  Special programs will be held specifically for parents and family members. We hope to see you there.
