At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Maggett Earns NJCAA All-American Honors

Vincennes, IN – Lady Blazer freshman phenom Ladellia Maggett earned All-American Honors by being named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd team this afternoon.

Maggett was one of the key factors that helped the Lady Trailblazers finish the season with a 25-and-6 overall record, and a 2nd-place finish in the District standings during the regular-season. Maggett averaged 18.7 points per game, 6.1 assists, and 4.4 rebounds. Maggett also handed out 190 assists over the course of the season, the 7th most in the entire NJCAA. Maggett proved that she could do it all for the Trailblazers this past season. Against Olive-Harvey, on November 19th, she recorded 16 assists, the most assists every by a VU Lady Trailblazer in a single basketball game. Against Southeastern Illinois and Olney Central, she knocked down 8 & 7 three’s in each of those games respectively, and scored over 30 points in each contest. Maggett was only 1-of-2 freshmen to be named to the NJCAA All-American 2nd team, something that reinforces Coach Meeks’ excitement about her future.

Meeks continued to say, “I could tell from the very beginning of the season she was going to be a very special player. She is one of the most athletic point guards I have had in a long time, and she was probably one of the top-3 guards in the NJCAA this past season. She does it all. She sees the floor, she can score, she can pass, she is fast, and ultimately she checks all of the boxes that a coach needs to have checked by a point guard. I am really excited about having her back next year, and I think her future is very bright.”
