Lecture sizes are usually 35 students and the laboratory sizes are 18 or fewer students. Computers are used in all laboratories for most experiments. Students are always exposed to the ever-changing world of information and technology. Learning also takes place outside the classroom. The Department co-manages the 600 acre Robeson Hills Nature Preserve. This old growth forest provides students with the ability to do ecosystem research in a unique setting along the Wabash River.
The department also sponsors a very active. The Club's members participate in volunteer and fund-raising activities during the school year and take a major trip each summer. This year they traveled to Chicago to visit the science museums and then on to the Virgin Islands.
