At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Lady Trailblazers go 4-and-0 at Showdown on the Wabash

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Volleyball team picked up a pair of wins in straight sets over Snead State CC, and Oakland CC on Day 2 of their home tournament, the Showdown on the Wabash, to move to a perfect 4-and-0 on the weekend, 22-and-5 overall.

After picking up a pair of wins on day one over Mott Community College and Head Coach Gary Sien’s former team, Kankakee Community College, The Trailblazers faced off against Snead State Community College.

The Lady Blazers looked impressive, as they handled the Parsons in straight sets: 25-12, 25-14, 25-18.

Sophomore Gabrielle Medrado led the Lady Blazers with 32 set assists. Sophomore Genesis Milisde racked-up 9 kills, while freshmen Mackenzie Haworth and Baylee Lippincott recorded 8 a-piece. The Blazers were led in digs by sophomore Hannah Bullock with 19, & freshman Allison Ruddick chipped in 16. Freshman Brooke Lasher tallied 2 aces, and sophomore Erica Kik rounded-out the stats column with 5 blocks.

Coach Sien said after the match, “We again served tough, and ran an effective offense to defeat an athletic Snead State CC team.”

The Trailblazer then returned to face-off with the Oakland Community College Raiders in the 4th and final match of the Showdown on the Wabash Volleyball tournament for VU.

The Lady Blazers again coasted to a 3-match, straight set victory over Oakland CC: 25-17, 25-23, 25-15.

Freshman Yasmene Leath & sophomore Genesis Milisde both recorded double-digit kills with 11 & 10 respectively. Sophomore Gabrielle Medrado again played a huge role for the Trailblazers, notching 24 set assists, and recording 10 digs. Medrado was joined in the double-digit dig column by Hannah Bullock with 16, and Abby Bigler with 10. Mackenzie Haworth scored 2 service aces, and Erica Kik added 2 blocks to her total.

“We defeated a traditionally good team in 3 sets to go 4-and-0 for the weekend, and 22-and-5 on the year. Things are moving in the right direction, and I was very pleased with our play this weekend on our home floor.” Said Coach Sien.

The Vincennes University Trailblazers will return to action tomorrow, Tuesday evening, at 7 p.m., for the annual Dig Pink game vs. Rend Lake.
