At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Volleyball Remains Unbeaten with Road Win at Rend Lake

Ina,IL – The Vincennes University Women’s Volleyball team remained unbeaten Monday night by picking up a: 25-19, 25-13, 25-16, straight-set victory over Rend Lake. Thanks impart to big nights from Sophomores Bullock, Medrado, and Milisde.

“Though it's not reflected in the scores, Rend Lake played us pretty well. They have some size which initially made it tough for our hitters. Plus we made it hard for ourselves by missing a lot of serves in Set 3. But we sided out each time to get the point back. This is a good match for us in preparation of a big, tough tournament this weekend at Owens CC in Ohio.”

The Lady Trailblazers were led in kills by sophomore Gensis Milisde with 10, and closely followed by fellow sophomore Gabrielle Medrado with 8. Medrado also led the team in assists with 16, and was second on the team in digs with 15. Sophomore Hannah Bullock had a very impressive, game-high 25 digs. Allison Ruddick and Erika Kik rounded out the stats sheet with 9 digs and 3 blocks respectively.

Bullock, a native of Barr-Reeve High School, currently sits 33rd in the NJCAA in total digs for the season with 61, and 2nd in the NJCAA in digs per set, with an average of 6.78. She is joined by Gabrielle Medrado, who currently ranks 46th in the NJCAA in assists.

The Lady Blazers toppled Ancilla on the road last Friday in straight sets: 25-10, 25-20, & 25-16. After Monday night’s victory over the warriors at Rend Lake, the Trailblazers a perfect 9-and-0 in sets this season, and a have an untarnished, 3-and-0 overall record. They will look to continue that perfect record this Friday at the Owens Tournament in Perrysburg, Ohio! Go VU!
