Men's Head Basketball Coach Todd Franklin

Todd Franklin enters his 21st season overall as a head coach at the collegiate level. Franklin spent 13 seasons at the helm at Southeastern Illinois, and enters his eigth season as the men's basketball coach at Vincennes University. He has overseen 9 trips in the last 13 seasons to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament, and last season, helped coach the 5th consecutive trip by the Trailblazers to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. VU's 5 straight trip to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament makes them the first team to do so in the modern era, and the only team other than Moberly Area in the 1950's to make such a run.


Coach Franklin has a current career record of 533-133 between his teams at South Eastern Illinois and Vincennes, and has a career record of 204-36 for the Trailblazers. The Blazers’ amassed a 32-3 record during the 2016-17 season, won the regular and postseason District 16 titles, and finished in the Elite 8 of the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. 


Among the VU Trailblazer standouts during Coach Franklin’s tenure, he has coached over 100 athletes in 20 years that have moved on to recieve full-ride scholarship offers at the next level. Coach Franklin has coached VU to 5 consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Tournament, and the schools 33 trips overall in school history best the next closest school by 14 trips. Coach Franklin has been a special guest speaker at Nike Basketball Camps, and has proven to consistently be one of the most winning coaches in the NJCAA. 


 

Throughout his career as a NJCAA head coach, Todd Franklin-led teams have finished in the top eight, eight times in the past 15 national tournaments.


Prior to his arrival at VU, Coach Franklin recorded 329 wins over 13 seasons at Southeastern Illinois College and led the Falcons to 12 20-win campaigns. Two of those seasons reached the 30-victory mark. SIC earned spots in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2010. SIC reached the NJCAA Final Four in 2003-04.


Before becoming coach at SIC, Coach Franklin spent six years at NCAA Div. II Missouri-Rolla and was on staff for one season at Div. I Austin Peay.

Coach Franklin, who played at Union College and Brescia College, holds a master's degree in health and physical education from Austin Peay. He has a bachelor's degree in history, with a minor in athletic coaching, from Western Kentucky.


Coach Franklin and his wife, Stephanie, have two daughters, Madison and Mary.
