We Believe Sports

National Junior College Athletic Association Logo

At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Graham Leads Trailblazers with Top-20 Finish at Intercollegiates

West Lafayette, IN – Freshman Marcus Graham continued his strong start to the 2017 cross country season by finishing 5th in the little state division, and 18th overall at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Purdue University.

Just as it had been for the women’s race, the heat played a large factor in the men’s race. With an actual temp of 87 degrees at race-time, and a real feel of nearly 94, it was warm to say the least.

Freshman Marcus Graham was the top finisher for the Trailblazers as he finished 18th overall, and 5th in the Non-Division I category. That finish is one of the best in school history, and is one of the best finishes for a freshman at the competition in school history. Fellow freshmen Atlantis Green & Seth Vaquero were the next finishers for VU at 40th (21st in little state) and 50th (31st in little state). Sophomore Hunter Ingle finished 59th (40th in little state), and freshman Michael DeMeyer rounded-out the top-5.

Coach Albrecht said after the race, “The results are really skewed for us as a team. We had to pull Evan Franklin at 5k due to some back issues. Healthy, he is a top-5 in little state caliber athlete. With that, all of a sudden, we are top-3 on the men’s side in the little state division. I would have liked to have seen us be more conservative at the start. That REALLY hurt us late in the race. However, I was proud of how we tried to work and move late in the race, and I was really proud of Marcus Graham today. We have several positives moving forward.”

The Vincennes University Cross Country Team will return to action Saturday, September 30th at the Greater Louisville Classic. Race time is set for Noon EST!
