At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.

Lady Blazers Cruise to Win over Kaskaskia

Vincennes, IN – The Lady Trailblazers volleyball team picked up another quality win as they topped a white-hot Kaskaskia team: 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 at the PE Complex this evening.

Vincennes jumped out on the Blue Angels early in set one. Using strong play above the net by Sophomores Genesis Milisde & Erica Kik to take set 1, 25-12.

The Lady Blazers found themselves in a sizeable hole early in the second, as Kaskaskia came out swinging, and amassed a 9-4 lead. However, the Trailblazers stormed back, and a pair of great plays by Sophomore Gabrielle Medrado allowed VU to tie the game at 20, then pull ahead 21-to-20. Vincennes would throttle down, and take set 2, 25-22.

Set 3 was a dog fight for the first several points. Both teams giving up a point, then rallying back with a side-out. The Trailblazers stayed composed, and managed to move past the Blue Angels in straight sets by taking the 3rd set, 25-22.

Tonight was another good night for the Lady Blazers in the stats column. Sophomores Genesis Milisde and Erica Kik led VU in kills with 10 & 8. Gabrielle Medrado, for the 21st consecutive game, was the team leader in assists with 26. Sophomore Hannah Bullock and freshman Allison Ruddick had team-highs in digs with 15 & 12 a-piece. Finally, Milisde & Kik rounded-out the stats column for the Blazers with 3 & 2 blocks respectively on the night.

Coach Sien said after the victory, “This was a great win for us after a tough weekend. This was a very good Kaskaskia team that had won 6 straight, and 9-of-their-last-10 matches before tonight. This is a very good start to the week as we head into the second-half of the season.”

VUVB will return to action tomorrow night, as they go on the road to Mattoon, Illinois to take on Lake Land Community College. Game-time is set for 7 p.m. EST. Go Trailblazers!
