The mission of The College of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Vincennes University is to promote academic success, provide students with a solid foundation for entry-level employment and fulfilling careers, and instill our graduates with an interest in wellness and active lifestyles that will adequately enhance the communities in which they choose to serve.

Students pursuing majors within the Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Vincennes University are preparing for careers in teaching, human performance, allied health, athletic training, public health and related fields. The department offers majors in allied health, athletic training, human performance, physical education and public health.  Students gain basic and advanced knowledge of the structure and function of the human body as well as applied areas such as nutrition, exercise physiology, pathophysiology, and practical experience among general knowledge of health and wellness programs such as physical therapy, nursing, physical education and sport management.

Athletic Training

The courses that make up the programs within the Health Sciences and Human Performance Athletic Training Department prepare students for certification and focuses on injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and the evaluation of athletic injuries. Athletic trainers are well-prepared to work with athletes at any level.

Funeral Service Education

Funeral Service Education provides you with a comprehensive understanding of all phases of funeral service necessary to serve the bereaved in a professional and ethical manner. The need for funeral directors and embalmers will escalate over the next twenty years and the earning potential has never been better.

Health Information Management

This curriculum is designed as a two-year  degree for students who wish to pursue the health information management (HIM) field, which  places you right where the expanding arena of health care meets the cutting edge of technology.


For those pursuing a career within the field of Nursing,  at Vincennes University, offers there are  several different educational opportunities available to students:

Provides professional registered nurses the opportunity to achieve advancement in their careers and seek leadership and management roles in the health care setting. The program offers clinical experiences in various healthcare settings, including leadership and management, community nursing, and areas of student-selected interest.

Permits students to obtain credit for the first-year Associate of Science Nursing Program courses and enter the second year of the program.

Prepares graduates who can function with competency to assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate nursing care of individuals or groups of clients in a variety of settings.

Provides an approved educational program to prepare students to be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). After completion of the coursework, which is one year, students receive a Certificate of Graduation.

Physical Education

Provides students with the first two years of preparation to teach K-12 P.E., emphasizing fitness and wellness development and assessment, movement exploration, motor development, A&P and the development of appropriate teaching methods. Upon completion, students transfer to an accredited 4-year institution to complete B.S. in Education and become eligible for Indiana Department of Education Licensure.

Physical Therapist Assisting

Physical therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion of optimal human health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct or alleviate acute or prolonged musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Physical therapist assistants provide physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

As a physical therapist assistant, you may work with athletes who are recovering from a sports-related injury, rehabilitate individuals to recover from surgery and go back to work or help ill patients regain mobility and manage pain. Physical therapist assistants must complete an accredited associate degree program, and physical therapists must complete an accredited graduate or postgraduate degree in order to be licensed.


Radiography is an exciting and challenging career involving the use of highly sophisticated equipment to create X-rays — anatomical images that are used by physicians to diagnose disease. Radiographers have direct patient contact in clinic and hospital settings and are valuable members of the primary health-care team.

Sports Management

The major in sport management is designed to address the unique position of sport in the global economy in order to prepare students for careers in a wide variety of sport settings, including, but not limited to, recreation management, the fitness industry, collegiate and professional sports, facility and event management, community relations, and retail marketing. The required courses allow students to gain a diverse background in the business aspects of the sports industry in conjunction with the socio-cultural role of sport in society.

Surgical Technology

Surgical Technologists are critical members of the surgical team providing assistance to surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care. They prepare operating rooms for surgery, make sure surgical equipment works properly, respond to the needs of the surgical team and ensure safe and sterile operating conditions. The Surgical Technology program prepares a student for career as a surgical technologist and provides students with the appropriate skills necessary to enhance their advancement in the surgical environment. Completion of theis valuable college ST curriculum prepares the student for the surgical technology national certifying examination.
