How Do I Qualify To Be A Senior Scholar
To qualify, you must be:

  • an Indiana resident
  • at least 60 years of age
  • a high school graduate or GED recipient
  • retired from your primary vocation
  • not employed full-time

You can take any credit course VU offers, however, you must meet course requirements.

When Are They Offered?
Monday through Friday
Days and early evenings

Where Are Classes Taught?
In addition to the classes taught on the Vincennes, Jasper, and Indianapolis Campuses, some classes are offered in community learning centers, libraries, or high schools in Greene, Sullivan, Daviess, and Gibson Counties.

Other courses can be taken by distance education. This means your instructor joins you in the classroom each week by satellite or Internet technology.

What Else Should I Know?
The Senior Scholars program applies to credit-courses only, and classes must be taken for a letter grade. Non-credit courses and training programs offered by Business and Industry Training are not included in this program. While tuition is free, students are responsible for books, class, or laboratory fees, parking permits, capital improvement fees, technology fee, student activity fees, and expenses other than tuition. Scholars can only take each class one time using the Senior Scholar credit.

Students attending day classes will probably need to buy a parking permit.

Senior Scholars will be expected to attend all classes, just as any other student.
Upon request, you can receive a college transcript at no charge. Senior Scholar award only applies to the first time you take a course.
