Bowling Coach Gary Sparks

Continuing an incredible run of success, Gary Sparks begins his 25th season as coach of the Vincennes University Bowling Team and has led the Trailblazers to 12 of the program's 19 NJCAA National Championships.
The titles under Coach Sparks' guidance came in 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Sparks was also named Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2012 and 2014. He was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame prior to the 2003 tournament. Coach Sparks is also in his 24th year as Director of the VU Bowling Lanes Management Program. He came to VU in 1992 after managing Brunswick Bowling Centers in Nashville, TN, and Bedford, IN. Coach Sparks spent six years on the Indiana Board of Directors for the Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA) and directed the state tournament before joining VU. He directed and taught youth league programs sanctioned by the YABA at both Nashville and Bedford.

Coach Sparks is a 1978 VU graduate who has bowled in sanctioned city leagues for more than 25 years. During his second year as a VU student, he competed for the Trailblazers in several tournaments.

Coach Sparks took over in 1992 for the husband-wife coaching team of Jim and Carol Miley, who led VU to seven NJCAA championships and the 1983 men's National Intercollegiate Bowling Championship.
