PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES/DEAN OF FACULTY

 

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for Provost and Vice President for Instructional Services/Dean of Faculty. This is a Full-Time Administrative position that reports to the President of the University.

 

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Provost and Vice President for Instructional Services is the chief academic officer of the institution with major responsibility for the instructional programs of the University. This position also functions as the Dean of Faculty and represents faculty interests to the President. The Provost advises the President on all matters pertaining to the development and implementation of academic policies and programs and scholarly activities, including budgetary support and personnel recommendations. The Provost is responsible for providing leadership and general management of instructional programs and personnel supervision and evaluation, professional development, instructional support, promotion, tenure and budget planning. The Provost will also be engaged in the accreditation and assessment process.

 

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Experience An earned doctorate is preferred; A master’s degree from an accredited institution is required.   College teaching experience is required. Significant successful administrative/management experience in higher education required.

 

Skills: Requires excellent leadership, decision-making ability, and an ability to project a strong positive image of the University with parents, students, faculty, staff and the University constituency. Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. The Provost must have the ability to work effectively and collegially within the University setting, including off-campus sites, and must possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Effectiveness in organizing and managing academic and professional staff in a complex organization is expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensures College compliance with the University mission by reviewing and approving departmental plans, goals and objectives.

     

  • Ensures that quality education for students in all forms of instruction, internships, and counseling, are being delivered properly. Directs necessary planning to ensure such services continue to be provided in the future by organizing the various academic departments and academic support units in an efficient manner that will provide access to educational opportunities in a variety of settings, such as the Learning Resources Center, computer laboratories, and other academic and technology areas. Provides direction in faculty recruitment and development efforts through indirect supervision of the teaching and service activities of the University.

     

  • Advises the President, Vice Presidents, Assistant Provosts and member of the Board of Trustees on matters of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs through regular meetings and by preparing reports, recommendations, findings and other communications as required.

     

  • Ensures that the academic curricula support the mission of the University and that the curricula offered in the various departments are neither duplicated nor exceed program needs. Is responsible for approving/disapproving all substantive curricular proposals forwarded through the faculty curricular process, including programs of study, as well as individual courses.Initiates annual program review process.

     

  • Assures the development of quality faculty and academic administrators by making promotion, tenure, appointment and reappointment recommendations of all faculty to the President following the approved process. Provides support and approval of faculty development projects and professional development leaves. Supervises Deans in the selection and appointment of academic administrators, following the approved process.

 

  • Facilitates compliance with required internal and external review, analysis and accreditation of academic programs by ensuring that assessment of academic programs and student performance is accomplished.

     

  • Facilitates the development of an effective and competent staff within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs by reviewing the qualifications of staff position applicants and making recommendations to the President on the employment of non-faculty employees.

     

  • Serves as Acting President in the absence of the President.

     

  • Enables division employees to perform their assigned tasks by assuming budgetary responsibility, under the supervision of the President, for all Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, coordinating the development of annual budgets by the various departments and retaining executive authority over all departmental budgets within the divisions and departments of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

     

  • Promotes a positive image and maintains harmonious external relations for the University by communicating with all entities by representing the President and the University in various community, state, regional and national activities to promote Vincennes University in particular and higher education in general.

     

  • Ensures that miscellaneous assignments related to Academic Affairs and Student Affairs are completed in the best interest of the University by accepting and accomplishing tasks as requested by the President.

     

  • Chairs the Curriculum and Academic Affairs Committee and serves as a member of the Faculty Senate Finance and Budget Review Committees

  • Reviews the recommendations for promotion and tenure and recommends candidates to the President.

     

  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the University Faculty Senate and the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee; attends all University Board of Trustees meetings and special committees of the Board of Trustees, as requested.

 

SUPERVISION

 

The Provost reports directly to the President of the University. The Provost has direct supervision of the University Deans and academic administrators within the areas of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Vincennes University Jasper Campus, Early College and ProjectEXCEL programs, and the major offices that support these areas, specifically the Learning Resources Center and Institutional Research.

Dual Credit Academic Outreach Specialist – Indianapolis, IN

Full-time

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Dual Credit Academic Outreach Coordinator. This position is a full-time, twelve-month professional staff position in Early College. 

The Dual Credit Academic Outreach Specialist will serve as the academic and recruitment representative for all Dual Credit programs and Vincennes University campuses.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Recruit Dual Credit Students to VU

  • Provide academic advising for students and families on VU programs

  • Coordinate academic and program activities at Dual Credit Sites

  • Participate in VU campus visits with Dual Credit students

  • Track, compile, and generate data reports as requested

Director of Library Services – Vincennes, IN

Full-time                            

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for Director of Library Services. This is a full-time, professional staff position.

The Director is responsible for oversight of Shake Library and the Byron R. Lewis Historical Library, providing service to the Vincennes campus and to University users beyond the Vincennes campus of the University.  In addition to administrative duties, the Director is a qualified librarian who shares responsibility for library support to students, faculty, and staff in conjunction with other librarians. 

The Director of Library Services is one of five LRC Directors who work as a team to promote and facilitate student success through access to diverse resources available at the LRC.  The Director must demonstrate a strong service attitude, effective communication skills, on-going attention to current best practices for academic libraries, and the ability to collaborate with diverse users and stakeholders.  The Library Director reports to the Assistant Provost for Curriculum and Instruction.  The Director will give priority attention to student service, not collection development.

This position is responsible for:

  • Coordinates efforts with stakeholders system-wide to support student learning, specifically with library resources.

  • Supervises professional librarians along with full-time and part-time library staff and student workers to address library needs.

  • Develops and administers the Library budget.

  • Provides reference services, class instruction, and acquisitions assistance as one of the full-time librarians.

  • Coordinates efforts for student service with other Directors at LRC.

  • Supports strategic initiatives for the University.

  • Leads assessment efforts for library services that support student learning.

  • Participates in professional development to maintain best practices for academic libraries at LRC.

  • Works nights and weekends as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate has:

  • MLS Degree or equivalent in Library and Information Science/Studies from an American Library Association accredited program.

  • Must have at least five years’ full-time professional experience in a library, with supervisory experience over both professional staff and non-professional staff, including student workers and/or interns.

  • Preference will be given to individuals who are committed to student service and student-centered learning centers.

Case Manager (Generations) – Vincennes, IN

Full-Time                     

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Case Manager at Generations. This full-time, professional staff position reports to the Case Manager Coordinator.

This position is responsible for:

Implements the Case Management component of CHOICE (2.0), SSBG, Title III, Title IIIE Family Caregiver, Care Transitions, Grants, Medicaid Waivers, private pay, and fee-for service within the Case Management Dept.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Registered nurse with one year’s experience in human services.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Gerontology, Nursing, or Health and Human Services; or

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years full-time, direct service experience with the elderly or disabled (this experience must include assessment, care plan development, and monitoring); or

  • Master’s degree in a related field

  • Must possess the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population, community leaders, public officials, township trustees, welfare department employees, nursing home personnel and physicians, the general public and especially the low-income individuals.

 

Within six months of initial employment must complete the Case Management certification through the Division of Aging.  Also required to obtain 20 hours Division of Aging approved training a year.  May be requested to obtain additional certifications, such as SHIP.

Program Specialist – Indianapolis, IN

Full-time                      

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Program Specialist – Business & Industry.   This full-time, Professional Staff position that reports to the Director of Apprenticeships.

  • Provide administrative support to the Director and daily operations for the apprenticeship programs and expansion initiatives with CNC Machining and Vincennes University’s site locations with Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Programs.

This position is responsible for:

  • Outreach and engagement

Student Retention

  • Assistance in achieving their goals at Vincennes University by encouraging their academic, cultural and professional development.

Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs

Full-Time

Vincennes University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs. This is a full-time, professional staff position with benefits.

Primary Function:

The Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Affairs has primary responsibility for the identification and coordination of programs and initiatives which promote engagement and academic achievement for minority students in the campus community. Working with the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, the Assistant Director provides support in the development of programs that assist the student in achieving their educational goal while also acquiring and developing skills needed to succeed in our diverse society.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, while being responsible for the implementation, of the Summer SWAG program.
  • Recruitment of students during START VU
  • Overseeing the Summer Swag daily schedule
  • Supervision of SWAG student staff
  • Assist with the new student orientation program
  • Develop the appropriate information channels to inform and assist minority students with the following opportunities: scholarships, educational assistance, student activities, employment options, Transfer planning, Career Center assistance
  • Build relationships with students in the campus community through active participation in evening and weekend activities, student organization meetings, and Residence Hall programs
  • Assist the Director in contacting and/or referring students with TAPS notices
  • Counsel students regarding student life issues
  • Support, plan, and/or implement campus activities, community services, educational programs, and/or special events that aid in student development
  • Provide support and advise to recognized student groups that assists students in achieving their goals at Vincennes University concerning their academic, social, and professional development
  • Plan and implement annual/traditional events which include but are not limited to: Fall Block Party, Martin Luther King Jr. Week ,BSA Fashion Show, Multicultural Awards Night, Student Club/Organization programming, and other events as assigned
  • Assist the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs in the management of money allocated by SGA
  • Be available to Admissions when asked to speak with students, high school counselors, and/or visitors who tour campus
  • Assist with commencement ceremonies
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan to evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of current programs, as well as, identify and implement new programs and services
  • Serve on University committees as requested
  • Hire, train, and supervise the BSU-Student Supervisor position
Experience:
  • A Master's degree, with no experience
  • A Bachelor's degree, with minimum of five years of full time administrative/professional experience, in the preferred areas of Student Affairs, Multicultural Affairs or related fields
  • With some/all off the following experiences:
  • Ability to successfully interact with a diverse student body and other constituencies
  • Higher Education work experience in Student Affairs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong self-motivated work ethic and a sense of team work
