Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of JAG Specialist at West Vigo High School. This full-time, Support Staff position in Workforce Development Services, Region 7.

  • The JAG Specialist is responsible for identifying, recruitment and instructing at-risk youth in achieving skills to be promoted to the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a successful transition from school to a career with advancement opportunities.The employee is responsible for fully implementing the Job’s for America’s Graduates (JAG) model in an assigned school and achieving process standards and performance goals including the summer months.In addition to case load and performance goals the JAG Specialist is responsible for all data entry in the state JAG and TrackOne systems

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred,

Clerk/Typist (Judicial Affairs) – Vincennes, IN

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Clerk/Typist. This is a part-time, support staff position.

The Student Center, located in the Beckes Student Union, houses the Office of Judicial Affairs, Student Activities, Multicultural, and International Student Affairs.  The center seeks to provide services, programs, and activities for students that support and contribute to the educational goals of the institution.

The Clerk Typist manages all office duties for the Associate Dean of Students, schedules appointments and maintains all records that pertain to the Office of Judicial Affairs, while providing clerical support with the retention efforts instituted by the Multicultural and International Student offices.

This position is responsible for:

Volunteer Coordinator (Generations) – Vincennes, IN

Part-Time                   

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Volunteer Coordinator for Generations. This part-time, support staff position reports to the Healthy Aging Program Coordinator.

This position is responsible for:

  • Responsible for volunteer coordination of volunteer services within Generations’ service area. 
  • Processes applications and provides orientation to volunteers.  Responsible for training volunteers on program expectations, liability issues and resources available.
  • Responsible for recruiting volunteers for the Volunteer Center by communicating with service organizations, churches, school groups, etc. 
  • Responsible for creating public awareness of the program within their county. 
  • Maintains communication with the volunteers as needed.
  • Assists with long-range planning for development and expansion of programs.
  • Develops and maintains contact list for volunteer recruitment and community resources.
  • Develops and maintains a list of volunteers willing to do one-time projects or those who possess special talents (i.e. AngelCorps).
  • Collects completed hour reports for the volunteer program.
  • Provides publicity for the Volunteer Center through as outlined in the Generations Marketing Plan.
  • Assists with the planning of special events as needed.
  • Plans and coordinates annual volunteer recognition.
  • Attends related meetings as scheduled by the Director of Planning and Community Development.

  • Must have excellent written communication skills as well as verbal communication skills both in person and over the phone

Student Support Services Professional Tutor – Vincennes, IN

Part-time                     

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Student Support Services Professional Tutor. This is a part-time Support Staff position.

Student Support Services is a federally funded TRIO program which provides academic assistance and non-cognitive strategies to qualifying college students in all aspects of the college experience, with a goal to assist with retention, graduation, and transfer to four-year degree programs.

Work Hours will vary dependent upon Professional Tutor’s schedule. The Open Tutoring Labs are available to students Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm. A part-time VU staff member may only work a maximum of 28 hours per week; no matter how many different departments the staff member works.

This position is responsible for:

  • Competency in tutoring subjects

  • Attends tutor orientation and training

  • Documents the tutoring sessions in the student’s tutoring file

  • Monitors and assesses the student’s progress in classes

  • Reports no-shows for tutoring to SSS Educational Coaches and Director

  • Documents bi-weekly timesheets

  • Maintains FERPA, HIPAA

  • Work as a collaborative team member

  • Reports to the SSS Director

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred in education, math, or science

Lab Assistant/Tutor – Vincennes, IN

Part-time                     

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a part-time 9-month lab assistant in the College of Humanities, Academic Skills Center.  This person would report to the Director of the Academic Skills Center. 

This position is responsible for:

Daily

  • One-on-one tutoring in English

  • File student papers

  • Basic Office Skills

  • Handing out student resources such as text books for use in the lab only

  • Must have flexible hours to work mornings/evenings

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Power point & the use of a scanner

  • Work in a high traffic academic lab

Academic Advisor MEP – Naval Base Coronado

Part-Time           

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for the position of Academic Advisor. This part-time, support staff position is located at the Naval Base Coronado (California).

  • Deliver a full range of academic advising services to all military students interested in enrolling in Vincennes University’s growing Military Education Program and or Distance Education Program offerings.  The advising workload will include advising hundreds of students each term.

This position is responsible for:

  • Conduct formal advising sessions with current and prospective students while advising on major course of study, degree requirements, and appropriate course delivery method.
  • Interpret, apply, and abide by the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and parental confidentiality issues.   
  • Evaluate and articulate data accurately concerning students, faculty and administrators.
  • Apply an accurate knowledge of a wide range of University courses utilized in over 28 programs, and academic standards and requirements to benefit students and the University.  
  • Develop degree plans for deployed and deployable military service members using critical thinking skills and working independently.
  • Coach, challenge and encourage learners through disruptive life events and obstacles through discussion of options to support student success.
  • Evaluate and interpret student’s military training and experience based on recommendations from the American Council on Education and apply credit to individual degree plans. 
  • Evaluate students’ academic records to ensure all requirements for graduation have been met.
  • Travel as necessary to effectively advise, recruit, and retain students and/or represent the University at Education Fairs at other MEP educational sites and military bases.
  • Recruit and retain active and inactive students through ongoing solicitation.
  • Conduct presentations on behalf of the University to stakeholders, such as military education service officers, regional directors and other key decision makers.

Vincennes University’s Primary Care Center is seeking applications for a RN or LPN to work PRN.  This position at the University Primary Care Center, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of excellent patient care in our primary care, student health office and wellness program.   • Lead group review sessions to prepare students for chemistry proficiencies

  • The role of the English Learning Coach is to support a stimulating learning environment to enrich the lives of students who are struggling in their academic classes. The English Learning Coach engages in personalized interaction with the student, uses effective communication and feedback tools, works to create a sense of community, and provides support and encouragement to the students. The English Learning Coach must possess the ability to work in a “team” supported environment.  The Vincennes University team in Wayne Township is there to support each other whenever a need occurs.

This position is responsible for:

Tutoring students in areas such as:

  • College English in a classroom setting and by appointment

  • Accuplacer reading and writing preparation for successful placement into college courses

     

 Work one-on-one with students on things such as:

  • Study skills

  • Test taking strategies

  • Motivation

  • Time management

  • Prioritizing

  • Organization

  • Setting goals

Work with Vincennes University’s Assistant Dean, Early Site Director, and Administrative Assistant with things such as:

Provide ongoing communication with teachers, parents, students, and counselors regarding the academic progress of individual students who are referred to them by counselors/teachers to receive assistance and academic support.

Foster meaningful relationships with students and faculty.

Maintain records of students’ academic progress in order to document and report improvements or identify additional needs.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:   

Deliver a full range of academic advising services to all military students interested in enrolling in Vincennes University’s growing Military Education Program and or Distance Education Program offerings. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct formal advising sessions with current and prospective students while advising on a major course of study, degree requirements, and appropriate course delivery method.
  • Interpret, apply, and abide by the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and parental confidentiality issues.
  • Evaluate and articulate data accurately concerning students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Apply an accurate knowledge of a wide range of University courses utilized in over 20 programs, and academic standards and requirements to benefit students and the University.
  • Develop degree plans for deployed and deployable military service members using critical thinking skills and working independently.
  • Coach, challenge and encourage learners through disruptive life events and obstacles through discussion of options to support student success.
  • Evaluate and interpret student’s military training and experience based on recommendations from the American Council on Education and apply the credit to individual degree plans.
  • Evaluate students’ academic records to ensure all requirements for graduation have been met.
  • Recruit and retain active and inactive students through ongoing solicitation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Understanding of academic degree requirements and a knowledge of requirements for degree completion.
  • Prior experience in academic advising at the community college level.
  • Experience working with military personnel.
  • Experience working with diverse clientele

Part-Time CDL Instructor - VU LTEC Plainfield, IN

Vincennes University is seeking applicant for CDL Instructor. This is a part-time, non-exempt support staff position located in Plainfield, Indiana.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for instructing CDL Class B training at Vincennes University Logistics Training and Education Center’s (VU LTEC) CDL program. The instructor must have a minimum of three years’ experience driving CDL Class A (preferred) or B tractor-trailers. Previous teaching/training experience preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

This position will report to the CDL Coordinator at VU LTEC. This individual will interact with students, faculty, and Vincennes University administrative offices.

PRIMARY DUTIES (may include, but not limited to the following):

• Conduct CDL Class B training in accordance with the VU curriculum and the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles guidelines

• Maintain all paperwork and reporting data for BMV license requirements and PTDI program certification

• Be a contributing member of the VU LTEC CDL Team to offer feedback and suggestions to improve program delivery

• Maintain safety as the number one priority for all students and staff

• Assist with the instruction (classroom, backing, road driving) of CDL Class A courses, as necessary

• Other duties as assigned

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Receive Indiana BMV instructor license by completing Indiana BMV Instructor application and background check

• Adhere to Vincennes University’s Instructor Policies (available upon request)

• Adhere to general employee policies found in the Vincennes University Online Manual

• Responsible for accurate time tracking and reporting of duties performed

• Be available and on-time to conduct training as scheduled by VU LTEC

• Responsible for all University equipment and facilities

• Conduct oneself in a professional manner as a representative of VU LTEC

• Available to work non-standard work hours as necessary (nights/weekends)

  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The CDL Instructor must have the following:

• Three (3) years verifiable experience driving Class A (preferred) or B tractor-trailers

• Current Class A (preferred) or B Commercial Driver’s License; current clean Motor Vehicle Record

• Current Department of Transportation physical; ability to pass drug screen

• Present knowledge on all State and Federal (FMCSA) regulations

• Working knowledge of CDL training/testing requirements

• Must meet VU’s basic instructor qualifications and skills

• Have a high school diploma or GED, some college preferred

• Applicants should have successful experience in overseeing simultaneous projects with minimal supervision

• Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, industry employers, and the public workforce system

• Must have the ability to take initiative; have superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

• Must have excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

• Professional appearance and manner is essential

• Ability to use Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle objects, tools or controls, reach with arms, and climb stairs. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
